Portrait photography in Dublin

Ann Maybin founded the Churchtown School of Music only 5 years ago and has recently relocated to new premises in Dundrum to cater for the growing numbers of students.

Ann is also responsible for the hugely successful Mini Music learning programme for children, now running in the National Concert Hall. Not only was she was a joy to photograph but music and conversation flowed through a number of afternoon setups. Hearing her play Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata as I photographed her was a real bonus.

Commercial Portraits in Dublin

Last Friday, Catherine Dunne launched her latest novel "Missing Julia" as part of culture night, in the Irish Writer's Centre in Dublin.

Here are a couple of the portraits that I was commissioned to produce of Catherine for publicity and for use on the cover of the book.

Tipped for an Orange prize nomination, "Missing Julia" is a powerful portrayal of life, love and reconciliation. Published by MacMillan, it is available in bookshops nationwide.

Business portraits

Preparation is key in corporate photography, because you have to get the shot. As a professional, that is what you are being paid to do.

For example, when I photographed financial expert Liam Croke, I was set up to start shooting in the company corporate style, before he arrived. We began the session after a brief chat, but shortly after, the time originally allocated had to be seriously curtailed, when one of Liam's clients arrived early for a meeting.

Fortunately, I work very quickly and not only did we get the required images, but in a really short time produced a variety of poses and setups which can be used in the future.

I guess, in corporate photography, the motto is: Always be prepared!

Family portrait photography in Dublin

Getting to photograph a lovely family on a beautiful summers day, is one of the great bonuses of my job. A quiet corner in the park was a perfect location for these lifestyle portraits of the Connelly family. Here are some of my favorites from the session.

A good night for a great cause!

With building on schedule for the opening of the LauraLynn Children's Hospice, at the Children's Sunshine Home next year, Miriam O'Callaghan recently joined founder of the foundation, Jane McKenna for the launch of an AT Cross Gold Dust Ballpen in support of the project.

The newly refurbished premises of Weir & Sons in Grafton Street was the location for the launch. Here are just a few images from the evening.

Jane McKenna with husband Brendan.

Special window displays, raffles and support from local businesses and jewelers from across the country helped to raise awareness of the first Children's Hospice in the Republic of Ireland, to care for children with life limiting conditions.

The Cross Ballpen bearing the LauraLynn House logo is available now from Cross stockists nationwide. 10% of the sale proceeds will be donated to the foundation.

You can find out more information about the LauraLynn Children’s Hospice at Children’s Sunshine Home here.
